Abstract

Lichen simplex chronicus (LSC) is an acquired severely itching chronic dermatosis. It consists of circumscribed lesions, evolving on sites prone to mechanical trauma such as rubbing and scratching. Patients should be well informed on the basic itch-scratch mechanisms and their relationship to the disease course, because the iatrogenic activity plays major role in the induction and perpetuation of the condition. General pruritus-relieving measures are simple and helpful approaches for long-term application. The therapeutic objectives focus on anti-inflammatory, antiseptic and antipruritic benefits. Highly individualised regimens are important to assure best treatment effect.
