Abstract
Seven to 55% of ischemic strokes amoung young adults remain etiologically unclaryfied. Lechat and coworkers (N Engl J Med 1988; 318:1148–52) recently had focussed attention on paradoxical embolism via the patent foramen ovale as a more important cause for stroke in the young than previously thought.
