Abstract

We stated earlier that the nurse-patient relationship focuses primarily on sustaining the patient in his experience (Chapter 6). We defined experience as a sequential process consisting of: 1) a person’s perception of an inner or outer event or object; 2) his interpretation of this event in light of his perception, his past experiences and present state; and 3) his response to the interpreted perception, again in light of his past experiences and present capacities.
