Abstract
Protocol drafters face a bewildering task. Variations on protocol design are infinite. The effects of protocol design on clinical practices are not clear. Each facility’s patients, treatment issues, and administrative framework seem to require a unique protocol design. Protocol drafters must somehow collate a diverse body of knowledge about medical ethics, clinical practices, and practical administrative procedures. The complexities of this task should be approached with a clear focus on patients’ clinical needs.
