Summary
If all inspection procedures in a sequence of operations can only detect failures which occured in a specific stage of the sequence, an Internal Control System (IDS) of that sequence is characterized by a combination of the inspection procedures for each stage. To obtain an optimal ICS two steps are necessary: The reliabilities and inspection costs of all operations or stages have to be computed as functions of their possible inspection procedures. To demonstrate, how this can be done, a feedback type inspection procedure is modelled by a Markovian Process. It then can be proved that at least one ICS is optimal, which inspects all items in the same way. It can be obtained by solving a Dynamic Program. An extension of this model to “hierarchical control systems” is discussed shortly.
