Zuckernucleotide (Monosaccharidverbindungen von Nucleosid-5′-diphosphaten, vgl.1) sind, wie die umfangreichen Untersuchungen seit 1950 gezeigt haben, für den Stoffwechsel der Kohlenhydrate und besonders für die Synthese von Oligosacchariden, Glykosiden und Polysacchariden von größter Bedeutung2–5.
