Abstract

The modal chromosome count of 84 with 16 two-arm chromosomes is identical to that of Salvelinus namaycush. Similarly, Robertsonian variation produces a range of numbers of chromosomes and of chromosome types, while the arm number remains at 100. Intraindividual as well as interindividual variation patterns are found, but the total amount of such variation in this species appears to be relatively low. In all respects the total karyotype is very similar to that of Salvelinus namaycush a situation perhaps reflected in the ease with which the species hybridize. Chromosomal sexual dimorphism has not been detected.
