Abstract
Important directions of development in electronic data processing have been referred to as the “factory of the future,” “office of the future,” and “fifth-generation computer systems.” Although these terms are above all only catchwords, they make clear the requirement for integration of diverse hardware and software components into comprehensive system designs.
