In den Porphyrinen sind 4 Pyrrolringe durch Methinbrücken zu einem Ring geschlossen. Es handelt sich also um cyclische Tetrapyrrole. Das Grundskelet der Porphyrine stellt das Porphin dar: Siehe Formelbild S. 656.
