Instabilities of isotropic perfectly elastic materials in simple shear

Abstract

In our paper on inequalities in finite elastic strain Toupin [1] and I have related various plausible static inequalities to one another. All these inequalities concern general deformations, in which the principal stretches may be varied independently. Intentionally we refrained from considering special deformations.
