Abstract
Parathyroid hormone has a profound effect on the synthesis and removal of collagen by the action of bone cells. A peculiar biphasic response of bone collagen synthesis to the administration of PTH can be observed: In acute experiments a decrease of radioproline incorporation into bone collagen is found. After 2–5 days, the rate of collagen synthesis is back to normal and strikingly increased later on.
