Abstract

Transauricular hypophysectomy was performed on male Wistar rats weighing approximately 100 g. The average body and pancreas weights 52 weeks after hypophysectomy were 133 ± 25 g and 0.25 ± 0.04 g, respectively. The pancreatic weight was 0.19% of the body weight, which was less than that of nonhypophysectomized rats (0.25%). The pancreas appeared slightly thin when fresh and in situ, but normal in color.
