Zusammenfassung

Unter den Krankheiten, die den Menschen durch die Jahrtausende ständig begleiteten, gehört die Urolithiasis zweifellos zu denjenigen, deren Ätiologie und Pathogenese sehr lange im dunkeln lagen und auch heute erst teilweise geklärt sind. Die Geschichte der Medizin kennt zahlreiche Beispiele dafür, wie sehr man seit altersher bemüht gewesen ist, die Ursachen dieser Krankheit zu ergründen sowie Möglichkeiten für ihre Prophylaxe und Therapie ausfindig zu machen. Viele empirisch gewonnenen Erkenntnisse brachten zwar beachtliche Fortschritte für die konservative und chirurgische Behandlung der Urolithiasis, doch blieben sehr viele Fragen — insbesondere hinsichtlich der formalen Genese — offen; wenn einige von ihnen inzwischen geklärt werden konnten, so ist dies in einem nicht unbeträchtlichen Maße tierexperimentellen Untersuchungen zu verdanken. Auf diesen Umstand darf hier mit Nachdruck hingewiesen werden, weil von klinischer Seite nicht selten die Bedeutung der Ergebnisse solcher Untersuchungen unterschätzt wird. Andererseits ist es selbstverständlich, daß aus den Resultaten von Tierversuchen — vor allem, wenn es sich um therapeutische Fragen handelt — nur mit großem Vorbehalt Schlüsse für die Bedingungen beim Menschen gezogen werden können.
