Zusammenfassung

Hypnotica oder Schlafmittel setzen die Erregbarkeit des Zentralnervensystems herab, wodurch der Schlafeintritt gefördert wird. In niedriger Dosierung können die Hypnotica als Sedativa verwandt werden. Umgekehrt wirken die Sedativa bei hoher Dosierung wie Schlafmittel. Pharmakologische Verwandtschaft besteht auch zu den Narcotica, die in geeigneter Dosierung sedativ bzw. hypnotisch wirken. Schließlich zählt man die Hypnotica zu den Narcotica im weiteren Sinne.
