Abstract

Are the circadian rhythms harmonic (pendulum) oscillations or relaxation oscillations? Wever has discussed both possibilities. His ideas offer a good starting-point for further attempts to analyse this subject. Excerpts from his arguments are translated and quoted here

„So hört die Bewegung nicht auf, wann das Blättchen die Mitte seines Weges zurückgelegt hat, wo beyde Gegenursachen etwa ins Gleichgewicht kommen, sondern geht noch in der angefangenen Richtung fort, bis die Gegenkraft, die immer wächst, während die andere abnimmt, völlig gesieget hat.“ F. v.
