Summary
The Gaussian analysis of 21-cm profiles by the method of least squares is met with difficulties caused by the small radius of convergence. It is shown how this obstacle can be overcome by splitting the solution of the normal equations into three steps instead of the usual single one. Some first results of this method in the Monoceros region are discussed. By the application of the Gaussian analysis it was possible to obtain from the 21-cm line measurements some indications on the existence of an expanding shall of neutral hydrogen in the association I Mon.
