Zusammenfassung

Die therapeutische Anwendung von Kälte wird mittlerweile in unterschiedlichen medizinischen Bereichen eingesetzt, z. B. in der Gynäkologie, Proktologie, Dermatologie, Ophthalmologie und im HNO-Bereich. Bisherige Erfahrungen in der postoperativen Schmerzbehandlung mit Kryoanalgesie sind beschränkt, obwohl angeblich bereits Hippokrates über die Kälte als Analgesieprinzip berichtet hat. In den letzten 30 Jahren wurde die Methode in Großbritannien weiterentwickelt und mit Erfolg angewandt [2, 10, 19]. Berichte aus anderen Ländern bekräftigten die Hoffnung, die man auf dieses in der physikalischen Therapie bereits etablierte Prinzip setzte.
