Abstract
ADHD is a behavioural defined disorder based on the symptom triad attention deficit, hyperactivity and impulsiveness. There are some differences in the definition of the syndrome according to the currently used classification systems ICD 10 and DSM IV which lead to a more frequent diagnosis, when the DSM system is used. There are numerous symptom check-lists, scales and interviews aiming at the diagnosis of the behavioural pattern of ADHD. Nearly all of them are based on the judgement of observers (parents, teachers, doctors, psychologist) or on self-ratings. In contrast to this approach, objective measurements try to register the behaviour pattern and the possible basic processes underlying the disorder by neurobiological and neuropsychological parameters. The papers presented in this Symposium will be focused on the simultaneous measurement of the symptom triad of ADHD, the measurement of motor activity using the Doppler-Radar-Technique, molecular-genetic findings, results of neuro-imaging techniques and neuro-psychological measurements.
