Abstract

The early studies of Rott [3.2, 3.71], Moore [3.1], and Sears [3.3] led to the development of a model for unsteady boundary-layer separation which has become known as the Moore-Rott-Sears model. In this model, unsteady separation is characterized by the vanishing of both the shear and the velocity at an interior point of the boundary layer, as seen in a coordinate system moving with separation. Moore [3.1] and Sears and Telionis [3.35] also argue that in the solution of the boundary-layer equations, a singularity occurs at the unsteady separation point.
