Abstract
The bed-type of river intake has been used recently at a number of locations in north-east Scotland for the provision of water for both domestic and industrial use. River abstraction, where practicable, is economically attractive because it takes advantage of the natural transport of water from the catchment areas, obviating the need for an impounding reservoir and a long aqueduct. The intake can usually be sited close to the centre where water is required.
