Intracranial Arterial Duplex Doppler Waveform Analysis in Infants

Abstract

Several factors influence cerebral arterial velocity waveforms as measured by duplex Doppler ultrasound. In addition to alterations in the cardiovascular system such as pulse rate and patent ductus arteriosus, pathology causing increased resistance of the cerebral vasculature such as hemorrhage, hydrocephaly, and hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy appear to cause an increase in pulsatility of the velocity waveform.
