Abstract

There are some 12 major family groupings of adhesives likely to be of value to the engineer. No ‘expert’ could be expected to know everything about them — let alone their many sub-groups and individual formulations — so the unassisted engineer is unlikely to make the best choice for his application. Although trial and error may eventually furnish a solution it is inefficient, time-consuming and, in the end, may miss the best option. Indeed, some would-be suppliers have a vested interest in steering an engineer away from a better alternative to their own proposal.
