Abstract

This chapter draws extensively on the State of Canada’s Environment Report (Environment Canada 1996a) and data assembled by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans, and Statistics Canada (http://www.dfo-mpo.gc.ca/communic/Statistics). Results are presented for freshwater commercial and recreational fisheries and for that component of the emerging Canadian aquaculture industry which is, in whole or in part, related to freshwater.
