Zusammenfassung

Frühgeborene und wachstumsverzögerte Neugeborene benötigen eine Versorgung durch darauf spezialisierte Kinderkrankenschwestern und -ärzte,auch wenn eine Intensivtherapie nicht oder anfangs noch nicht notwendig erscheint. Das folgende Kapitel gibt eine Einführung in einige wichtige Aspekte der Therapie. Frühgeborene benötigen neben Sauerstoff vor allem Wärme, Flüssigkeit und Nahrung. Diese Feststellung mag simpel erscheinen,aber der tatsächliche diesbezügliche Bedarf wurde quantitativ und qualitativ erst in den vergangenen drei Jahrzehnten eingehender untersucht. Entsprechend lückenhaft sind nach wie vor unsere Kenntnisse. Ergänzungen und Korrekturen sind in rascher Folge zu erwarten. Die genaue Beachtung dieses Wissensstandes bei der Therapie ist für solche Kinder potenziell von lebenslanger Bedeutung, da unsere Behandlung wahrscheinlich in die Zeitfenster verschiedener früher biologischer Prägungsphasen fällt.
