Strömungen haben die wichtige Fähigkeit, dass sie Substanzen oder Eigenschaften transportieren können. So wird z. B. ein Schadgas, das aus einer Quelle (Schornstein) austritt, von der Luftströmung erfasst und von der Quelle wegtransportiert.
