Abstract

The Anostraca without carapace live in stagnant, mostly ephemeral inland waters. Common fresh-water species with a life cycle restricted to a few months of the year are the “Spring form” Siphonophanes (Chirocephalus) grubei and the “Summer form” Branchipus schaefferi. A species complex under the name Artemia salina lives worldwide in saline-rich lakes and ponds up to the salt lagoons of sea coasts.
