The Definition of a Supply Chain Project

  • Chapter

Abstract

Supply chain management projects range from specific improvements on a functional level to large-scale change programmes, involving the redefinition of the business strategy and redesign of business processes. Here, we focus on Advanced Planning System implementation projects, targeting to improve the performance of a supply chain by means of an APS. The starting point of an APS implementation project is “the realization that some kind of significant change is required” (KPMG, 1995). The drivers for the change may be perceived negatively as pains or positively as potentials — in any case it is apparent to the organization that business must be done differently in the future.
