Abstract
For some time now, performance-related pay has been the hallmark of progressive management credos. Companies, government offices and even universities have come under pressure to increase efficiency by basing a larger part of employee compensation on success-oriented performance criteria. In particular, the granting of bonuses or stock options is viewed by many as an integral part of performance-based compensation.
