Abstract
This chapter discusses the research methodology and includes a description of the key variables, rationale for the chosen measures, a summary of the questionnaires and an outline of the analytical method. The focus of the research was fourfold:

to identify those factors which influence differences in the adoption of environmental initiatives among similar companies in three industries,
-
2.
to identify costs and benefits arising from the adoption of environmental initiatives (including productivity, competitiveness and employment effects),
-
3.
to investigate factors facilitating the adoption of clean technologies, including consultancy and other information services,
-
4.
to identify from service suppliers the strengths and weaknesses encountered in the SME sector.
