Palladium and Boron

Pd Palladium

Abstract

Differential thermal analysis, metallographic analysis and X-ray analysis have been used to establish phase data of the binary Pd-B system over the temperature range 500 to 1600°C. Isothermal reaction data are collected in the table below. Compounds formed are Pd4B, Pd3B, Pd5B2 and Pd2B. Each melts to form a liquid phase which extends to approximately PdB0.57 at 1237 K whereupon solid boron forms. Solid palladium dissolves in boron to give a saturated composition near PdB0.25 [1].
