Zusammenfassung
Eine Adipositas liegt vor, wenn der Körperfettgehalt eines Patienten das normale Maß überschreitet. Da eine genaue Messung der Fettmasse des Körpers technisch aufwendig ist, wird diese in der Praxis indirekt durch Messung der Körpergröße und des Körpergewichts abgeschätzt. Im deutschsprachigen Raum wurde entsprechend bislang aus dem Längensollgewicht1 (Relativgewicht bezogen auf die Größe) das prozentuale Übergewicht berechnet und eine Adipositas ab 20 % Übergewicht definiert. Heute ist der Körpermassenindex oder Body Mass Index (BMI)2 die international und auch in Deutschland empfohlene Größe, welche zur Definition der Adipositas herangezogen wird (WHO 1998; AG A 2001). Entsprechend den Grenzwerten für andere altersabhängige Parameter im Kindes- und Jugendalter (z.B. Definition von Hochwuchs) wird die 97. Altersperzentile des BMI zur Definition von Adipositas herangezogen (s. Abb. 23.2). Die Messung der Trizeps-Hautfaltendikke kann zusätzlich helfen eine Adipositas zu diagnostizieren (>97. Altersperzentile).
