Abstract

In melts like alkali halides the acidic oxide MoO3 likewise tends to become an acid. It reacts either with O2- to form an oxo anion, be it monomeric (MoO 2-4 ), dimeric, trimeric, etc., or it reacts with the “basic” solvent [1]. The basicity of the monomolybdate anion in any case can be described in terms of the solvent [2]. The melt substantially affects the 0-containing anions. For a comparative discussion regarding nitrate and chloride melts as well as 0-containing anions of Cr, Mo, and W, see [3].
