Abstract

Large-eddy Simulation (LES) has become an established technique to study turbulent flows, in particular turbulence at high Reynolds numbers. In contrast with so-called Direct Numerical Simulation (DNS) where all turbulent flow scales are resolved numerically, one computes in LES only a fraction of the turbulent flow field. The advantage of LES with respect to DNS when applied to the same turbulent flow, is that with LES one needs fewer grid point and thus less computational resources than with DNS.
