Zusammenfassung
Vielfältige psychotrope Substanzen werden von Menschen freiwillig eingenommen, um bestimmte Reaktionen des Zentralnervensystems (ZNS) zu erzielen. Dabei wird versucht, unterschiedliche Aspekte von Stimmung, Bewusstsein, Aufmerksamkeit und Denken gezielt zu verändern. Das ZNS reagiert allerdings nicht nur in der vom Konsumenten gewünschten Weise auf psychotrope Substanzen: Je nach Substanz, Dosis, Dauer und Kontinuität des Konsums einerseits und individueller Vulnerabilität andererseits ist immer auch mit unerwünschten Wirkungen zu rechnen. Akute und chronische Auswirkungen von Substanzkonsum umfassen deshalb oft weitreichende Veränderungen im Erleben und Verhalten der Betroffenen. Diese Änderungen sind jedoch der Introspektion nur teilweise zugänglich und vom Individuum kaum differenziert zu beschreiben. Beeinträchtigungen kognitiver Funktionen sind dabei von zentraler Bedeutung, da sie für die Selbststeuerung und die Bewältigung von Lebensaufgaben entscheidend sind. Die neuro-psychologische Forschung hat die anspruchsvolle Aufgabe, Art und Ausmaß solcher Beeinträchtigungen, die Risikofaktoren für das Auftreten von kognitiven Beeinträchtigungen und schließlich deren Auswirkungen auf den Lebensvollzug aufzuklären.
