Zusammenfassung
Die transösophageale Echokardiographie (TEE) stellt ein bildgebendes Verfahren dar, mit dem Morphologie, Größe und Funktion des Herzens und seiner angrenzen Strukturen dargestellt werden können. Die TEE wurde im M-mode-Verfahren erstmals 1975 durchgeführt, die zweidimensionale TEE wurde 1977 beschrieben [19]. Seither hat sich die TEE rasant entwickelt. Waren in den Vereigten Staaten 1988 erst ca. 50 TEE-Proben für die perioperative Überwachung von kritisch-kranken Patienten in Gebrauch, so hat sich diese Zahl bis 1993 auf über 700 erhöht [19].
