Abstract
Only in recent years and in particularly favorable cases has it become possible to directly generate images of molecules. In order to determine their sizes, masses, and shapes, there are however numerous less direct but older and simpler methods which date back even to the field of classical physics. Such methods are the subject of the following sections.
