Abstract
Due to their excellent thermal properties, flashlamp-pumped fiber bundle lasers (FBL) are a prospective approach to realize high average power solid state lasers /1,2/. The lasing medium is composed of a bundle of thin fibers doped with active ions. The fibers are waterproof bunched at the ends and spread out in the middle for water cooling. The extraordinary high thermal loading capability and small relaxation time allow extremely high pump energy and pulse repetition frequencies (PRF) delivering high gain, output energy and average power.
