Abstract

Medical professionals are ultimately responsible for the consequences of applying any device, treatment or examination to patients, therein the application of knowledge-based systems. With this perspective, the validation of knowledge-based systems goes beyond that of certifying their overall validity into an ongoing validation of systems application for every particular case at hand. As a consequence, systems output must contain information that makes quality assessment feasible.
