Zusammenfassung

Die postoperative Behandlung des herzchirurgischen Patienten ist trotz großer intensivmedizinischer Fortschritte in den letzten 20 Jahren aufgrund der stetig schwierigeren und weiterreichenden Operationsverfahren nicht einfacher geworden. Bessere und spezifischere Therapiemöglichkeiten auf hochspezialisierten Intensivstationen mit qualifiziertem Personal und ausgefeilter Monitortechnik haben zu erweiterten Operationsindikationen bei Kranken mit angeborenen und erworbenen Herzfehlern geführt und erlauben derartige Eingriffe auch in höheren Risikogruppen und fortgeschrittenem Lebensalter.
