Abstract

We report an experimental observation of a decrease in fluorescence intensity near zero-field point in the present of quadrupole magnetic field when atom vapour is excited by a circularly polarized traveling laser. The decrease is due to the magnetic dipole precession which will mostly cancel the orientation induced by optical pumping at zero-field point.
