Abstract

In § 44, data of wear caused by voltage flashes and arcs are given. The present problem is to investigate how these phenomena depend on the qualities (inductance, resistance, speed) of the machine. We start from well known differential equations. They are of a type that is familiar to engineers, and no extended description will be necessary. The figures imply considerable simplifications. For instance, it is assumed that the brush contacts only two segments at a time. A typical armature coil (R L) in Fig. (45.02) is regarded to he in its situation of current commutation.
