Jeder Patient mit schweren Schädel-Hirn-Verletzungen, die zu Bewußtlosigkeit führen, und jeder bewußtlose Patient, der ein Hirntrauma erlitten haben könnte, sollte nach der Erstversorgung sorgfältig neurologisch untersucht werden. Besonderes Augenmerk ist darauf zu richten, ob Herdzeichen oder progrediente neurologische Ausfälle vorliegen.
