Abstract

The diagram shown in Fig. 91 is based on melting point, metallographic and X-ray diffraction data due to [1]. The alloys were prepared by high-frequency melting mixtures of high purity materials in quartz ampoules under argon. Difficulties in metallo-graphic etching were found with alloys containing more than 30 wt% rhodium, and these were examined by relief polishing. Four intermediate compounds were found in this system, Rh3Ge4, RhGe, Rh5Ge3, and Rh2Ge; Rh3Ge4 and Rh5Ge3 were formed by peritectic reaction, the other two crystallized congruently from the melt. Two eutectics were found but no terminal solid solubility.
