Abstract
Superconductivity in rhodium-zirconium alloys was discovered by [1]. This has encouraged a number of investigations on the equilibrium diagram [2 to 5]. These resulted in the diagram shown in [6]. The diagram shown in Fig. 72 and Fig. 73, p. 116, is the result of the most complete investigation so far carried out using differential thermal analysis, levitation thermal analysis, X-ray analysis, electron microprobe analysis, metallography and superconductivity measurements [7]. The diagram is a complex one with some phases transforming martensitically and consequently the equiatomic region is shown enlarged in the second figure; reactivity of the constituents with gases and refractories poses many experimental problems in such work, and the role of oxygen in stabilizing a Ti2Ni phase found by some investigators has been demonstrated by [8, 9]. More recently, the effect of hydrogen on the superconducting properties has been shown [10].
