Abstract

Current therapeutic measures have greatly decreased the risks of death directly linked to diabetes, though the increase in life expectancy and the aging of this population have caused a significant increase in the frequency of complications which may give rise to morbidity and mortality. Lower limb lesions, particularly of the foot, are costly from both the human and economic standpoints [1, 70]. All types of diabetes, insulin-dependent or not, are prone to these complications. Prevention through supervision of the feet and education of the patients is therefore a major issue [1, 30].
