Zusammenfassung
Die zerebrovaskuläre Insuffizienz gehört mit 14,3 % zu den dritthäufigsten Todesursachen in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland. Männer und Frauen sind in gleicher Häufigkeit betroffen, bevorzugt im Alter zwischen 70 und 80 Jahren. Bei etwa 80 % der Patienten liegt der zerebrovaskulären Insuffizienz eine arteriosklerotische Einengung zervikokranialer Gefäße oder ein darauf aufgepfropfter thrombotischer Verschluß zugrunde.
