Abstract
In a time when markets are becoming increasingly saturated, automotive manufacturers are faced not only with the necessity to provide a wide variety of vehicles to satisfy market demand but are also developing products which are increasingly complex from a technical viewpoint — taken together difficult tasks to deal with at the same time. Over and above this, legal, cultural and economic factors are constantly shifting ground and, due to customer demand, product innovation cycles are having to become ever shorter. In short, the challenges facing car manufacturers have never been greater than they are today.
