Abstract

In industry there is an increasing transformation towards intercompany collaboration and networking of organizations. This process results in an increase of interfaces, a shift of the management function towards operational levels and ultimately a virtualization which entail in a loss offormal structures. As a consequence, the human being becomes ever more important as a stabilizing factor. At the same time, the dynamics and the loss of structures are placing heavier demands on people. This situation can be improved through (1) the application of an action-oriented approach towards workplace design and (2) a strong focus on people during organizational change.
