This section is the numerical follow-up to Sects. 2.1 and 2.2. We consider a rectangular coil of the polyhelix type [90–94]. The aim of the numerical optimization is to find the distribution of the current density which yields the highest possible field in the center of the coil. The optimization is performed under the constraints of the maximum allowed von Mises stress in the coil and a finite amount of magnetic energy.
