Abstract

The complex angular momentum, or Regge, approach teaches us that the exchange of crossed (i.e. t-) channel reggeons (singularities in the complex angular momentum) determines the asymptotic behavior in the direct (i.e. s-) channel. In spite of the complications already discussed (such as the appearance of cuts induced by unitarity), and of the persistent ambiguities (such as the nature of the leading singularity, the pomeron, which will be the main subject of Chap. 8), the above mentioned property makes the Regge-pole approach the prototype and the most powerful of the so-called t-channel models.
